A lot of good manners and other things have been lost in modern society so I love to immerse myself back in a time when these things still mattered to people. A must read for all the adventure buffs out there. I had to read it for English class and I thought it was terrible. ' I'm sorry to say but I hated this book. But I was very interested in the actual plot and all the mishaps that happened along the way. I skipped over the paragraphs about topography and how trains work. I didn't even know there was a mysterious element to it! So exciting. ' This isn't just the story of how a guy went around the world in 80 days. ' gets pretty boring at the end ' - Ivan, ' This is not my favorite Verne book, but it's nice to be able to say you have read it. Well at least now I can say I read this one. I liked the characters, but sometimes they annoyed me. I just wanted the stupid trip to be over. It started out ok, but then I got kind of bored in parts. Not sure why but this was a difficult read for me. I am glad I read this, but even happier that I am finished. Fenomenal pra quem leu novo, com certeza. And if you'd get to know more about the countries they travelled. It would be even more fun if Phileas Fogg wasn't so effing glorified. the world that was imagined and the lands that were visited made my younger self realize that through reading, my travels could be limitless! ' - Sassafrass, The language is so much different than those contemporary books I'm usually reading so it's hard to get used to, but this was one of the books that really got me into reading. ' I read this as a kid and it's such a hoot reading it now. I also found the characters more interesting, and fully developed. Though a bit like Under the Sea, it actually had a story with purpose, on which the various smaller stories hung, so no one spent much time wandering about for no reason (they did do this, but not as much) and there were no lengthy descriptions of fish. ' I read this in less than twelve hours it was riveting and brilliant, and at times farcical.

' I remember enjoying the movie with Pierce Brosnan and Eric Idle as a kid so I was inspired to read the free download on the kindle. I liked the twist at the end it was a bit silly of course, but made for a clever ending. I enjoyed the descriptions of the areas of the world from the Victorian viewpoint and in fact didn't find them nearly as racist and condescending as expected for a book written in this time period. Phileas Fogg is actually quite boring as a character, but I adored Passepartout. What a difference! This book is a very quick read and has no real depth to it but I still liked it very much. I saw a link somewhere to Around the World in Eighty Days and decided to give it a go. ' The only other Verne I have read is 20, 000 Leagues under the Sea, which I thought was a complex book and fairly difficult to read. it got me on my nerves so many times but i loved the thrill.
